SHOW us where your money is going!

Sunshine Coast Daily readers have stood behind calls from Nambour-based senator James McGrath for all 41 members of Tony Abbott's ministerial team to publish all spending within their departments.

The request follows Mr McGrath's suggestion than an online transparency portal be established to list all federal government spending for all Australian residents to see and scrutinise.

The Senator has written to all ministers, assistant ministers and parliamentary secretaries to draw attention to the need for greater care when it comes to spending taxpayer funds.

It comes after Bronwyn Bishops infamous $15,000 helicopter flight to a charity event, followed by Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleije's $15,000 helicopter bill.

Here's a snapshot of your online debate:

Dianne Ericksen: Yes, all ministers should do this as well as all the gifts and freebies they get.

Brendon Stadon: It's our money so we deserve to see where it is going!

Rowena Cuthbert Instead of increasing GST make all politicians pay back the public's money they have been spending travelling, buying wine having a good time at our expense and they would repay the country's debt in no time.

Matthew Kennedy: I think we should be able to see exactly where all our tax dollars go. I know the implications of this getting into the wrong hands mean it is nearly impossible to achieve, but the public should all have access to the individual government personnel expenses and it should be mandatory.

Alex Cahill: Great idea! But why stop with one party or the other/s and why not include states and councils? Anything earned from tax payers (and rate payers in regards to councils) should be transparent.

David Weir: Yes definitely for the government and the opposition. And ban accepting personal gifts completely and absolutely!

Ann Carson: It should be for ALL parliamentarians, not just the government of the day.
