I looked out my kitchen window and saw these two magnificent king parrots sitting on the pool pump shed- Such a privilege to have these very shy birds so close to the house.

THE sight of a pair of king parrots outside her kitchen window gave Helen Roskell pause to reflect on her good fortune.

"Such a privilege to have these very shy birds so close to the house," she posted with her photo on The Northern Star's Facebook page.

It's the sort of privilege we get a lot of on the Northern Rivers - whether it's rosellas and koalas in our trees, echidnas and bandicoots in our backyards, or platypus in our creeks - and the fact we all get to share it just makes it even more special.

Photo of the Day celebrates the beauty of the Northern Rivers and the talent of its people.

As well as appearing here, it is published on Page 2 of the newspaper and is used as the cover image on our Facebook page.

To contribute an image for our weekday polls, simply share it to our Facebook page.
