THIS spiky ball of cuteness is one lucky echidna.

He was found curled up in the Yarwun Rio Tinto car park last week, thanks to a kind hearted employee, who picked the little fellow up and transported him to the vet.

It seems he has suffered some trauma to his eye and is under close observation by a wonderful marsupial coordinator.

To the Rio employee who took the time to care for this little guy, your kindness is very much appreciated.

The vet checked it out and found it had a slight eye infection.

We gave it a course of antibiotics and had it for a couple of days.

We released the echidna to the Cluden Rehabilitation Centre in the Boyne Valley on Wednesday.

We've had probably about 10 echidnas in our care before.
