Son Dials 000 and Save Mum's Life

Early Thursday morning I woke up and found myself in hospital with needles in my arm and lots of nodes stuck to my body. After the shock wore off, my family and neighbours told me what had transpired the previous night. I went to bed around 10pm Wednesday night and felt fine. My neighbour heard me banging and crashing around the house from about 11pm onwards. It was loud enough to keep her awake and she wondered how my two children were sleeping through the noise. At around 3am Thursday morning my ten year old son woke to find me sitting on his bedroom floor trying to pick things out of the carpet. He witnessed other unusual behaviour from me and decided that something was wrong. He woke his eight year old sister and rang 000 from my iPhone. Being a single mother I taught my children that even though my iPhone was locked, you could still make emergency calls. The ambulance arrived and took my two children and I to the Hervey Bay Hospital where I was placed in the Resuscitation Ward. The hospital then telephoned my parents who lived in Point Vernon to inform them of what had happened. My children went home with my parents who also informed my work colleagues of what had happened. For years I have been taking four different types of medication for various health issues. However not all of these medications were prescribed by the same doctor. It turns out that over time the culmination of all these medications gave my body an overdose and I suffered a severe drug reaction. I still cannot remember anything between going to bed Wednesday night and waking up in hospital the following morning. I have very large bruises all over my body and no idea how I got them. The hospital staff said I had them when I arrived. There are two extremely important lessons to be learnt from this situation. The first is to always have your medication checked when prescribed another drug. The second is to make sure your children know how to dial 000, especially from an iPhone that is locked. I am sitting here today because my son saved my life.
