Pedestrian killed in crash on Bruce Hwy at Tiaro

UPDATE: A man has been killed in a crash on the Bruce Hwy at Tiaro, south of Maryborough.

It appears the pedestrian was hit by a four-wheel drive travelling north near the John St intersection, which is close to the police station in a 50kmh zone.

A Bundaberg doctor, who happened to be driving past, and paramedics treated the man but he died at the scene.

The AGL Action Rescue Helicopter was on-site earlier but has left.

Police, the forensic crash unit, firefighters and ambulance officers are still at the scene.

Two other vehicles, a campervan and a ute towing a caravan, are damaged and parked by the side of the road indicating they were also involved in the crash which is believed to have happened about 12.20pm.

The highway is still open but traffic flow is being restricted around the crash site.

Four ambulances were initially on the scene but one left before the rescue chopper arrived.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
