READERS DISCUSS: Dominic Doblo’s concerns about extremists
OUTSPOKEN businessman Dominic Doblo has been accused of stirring up religious division after expressing online his concerns about Islamic extremists in Rockhampton.
We asked our online readers for their thoughts on the issue. Here's what they had to say.
Shelley Truscott: Sorry but I agree with Dominic. Although a major incident has not occurred (such as our amazing police officers shot in cold blood) in Rockhampton. But why are we meant to sit idly by and let our history and our culture die. Do you know that the Muslim government in Iran. Burnt all of the Kurdish and Italian history so that the Islamic forced can rule the people as well as their land. Sorry but I don't want my country and my history to be the same. So yes I am so sick of not being able to enjoy my country.
Malcolm Wells: BTW I am puzzled by the claims that Islam is not a religion. Deos this mean that the Oxfrd English dictionary ha got it wrong. "the religion of the Muslims, a monotheistic faith regarded as revealed through Muhammad as the Prophet of Allah." There is a lot of hysteria coming out here, and a lot of bigotry. I see no sign of Australia's history and culture dying, although Aborigines might identify with that remark. People are crying that Muslims are intolerant, well look at your own rants and you will certainly see intolerance.
Peter Turner: Religion has no place in politics. And that's all religion no matter which one they follow. Tolerance of each other's religions , sexual preference and race is paramount. Giving air time to bigoted views either side is not required in any level of politics.
