READERS DISCUSS: Where's Coast's share of the rail funding

WITH no hope in the State Budget for funding the Coast's rail offering, local commuters have had enough.

Poor cousins are how a frustrated Jeff Addison describes the Sunshine Coast when it comes to being able to compete for major infrastructure commitments.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WE'RE THE 'POOR COUSINS': RAIL FUNDING A NO SHOW IN BUDGET

The Sunshine Coast Rail Back on Track spokesman said he was dumbfounded at the continued ignorance of the need for rail duplication to service Sunshine Coast commuters, again evidenced in the latest State Budget.

The State Budget delivered nothing new for Coast rail.

In a Daily online poll, a whooping 94% of respondents said the Coast deserves more when it comes to rail infrastructure to link the region to Brisbane and beyond.

Here's a snapshot of your online debate:

Rail commuters have described the Coast as "poor cousins" to Brisbane and the Gold Coast after nothing was allocated in...

Stephen Philp: We need to insist that all state pollies take a 50% pay cut to fund our rail upgrade. It is absolutely disgusting that we are ignored like this.

Barbara L Smith: Rail duplication is essential to the progress of the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. How many more workers would take the train into Brisbane if it was timely and reliable?

Shane Harvey: All the planning maps these days show designated land for a railway from Beerwah through Caloundra, to Kawana, Mooloolaba and Maroochydore. Wouldn't this be a great benefit to the Sunshine Coast commuters, servicing the highly populated areas and saving them having to travel to Landsborough or Nambour to catch a train?

Blair McNamara: The Sunshine Hoax is an urban mirror of south east Queensland's competitive, non-progressive, non-imaginative, unsustainable greed. Australia's train-lines are from a by-gone colonial era. Duplicating bits is not foresight! A 400kmhbullet-train, Tewantin to Tweed Heads via Brisbane Airport, is 30+years overdue.

Bony Herring: And more frequent trains running on the line would be good and the bus service on the coast needs an improved. Seriously every 30min I have to wait just to go to Nambour.

Duncan Sanderson: Without the infrastructure, Sunny Coast will always be the poor cousin. If they can just see that, commuters will be commuting from Brisbane each morning rather then the other way!

Scott Attard: Keep the Sunny Coast the way it is.

Kay Sawyer: Absolutely, I only commute about four times a year for shopping trips, I really feel for the people who do it day in day out for work! The train and track our prehistoric!
