READERS DISCUSS: Too little too late for Bronwyn Bishop?

BRONWYN Bishop has admitted she should have said sorry after news of the choppergate scandal broke but is it too little too late?

The senior LNP figure sparked a prolonged and damaging furore over her use of taxpayer-funded political entitlements, after it was revealed that she spent $5,227 on a charter helicopter to travel a short distance from Melbourne to Geelong for a political fundraiser.

Many Daily readers believed the sentiment was insincere. Others went so far as to say Ms Bishop should resign from her post. 

Ms Bishop's office said this week the travel has been taken within entitlements, but Ms Bishop said she would repay all of the money she has spent attending weddings even though it was within the rules.

"I've been listening to what the Australian people are saying … there's no excuse for what I did with the helicopter," Mrs Bishop said.

"I'll be repaying all expenses related to weddings, which while technically in the rules just doesn't look right.

"I know I've disappointed and let down the Australian people," the Speaker said.

Mary Oneill: She's no more sorry today than she was a week ago. Uncle Tony has told her to say sorry so he thinks he won't have to sack her.

Phil Dixon: I think every politician should say sorry for the way they treat us.

Anthony Batey: Bronwyn who ? I thought she'd left politics.

Judy Dungey: She apologised due to pressure from the public, not due to conscience. She has to go, and the sooner the better. To defend her is to condone her actions!
