READERS DISCUSS: Remote classification of food and alcohol

A town 35 minutes drive from the Rockhampton CBD is paying more for its beer after the bottle shop company decided it was 'remote'.

This is the story we ran about it: VIDEO: Beer fan laments price rise due to 'remote' classing

What would you classify as 'remote' and do you think people living remote should pay more for supplies?

  • Amanda Nicole Marsh - Everything is dearer in the mt not just the beer
  • Kerrilyn Page - no actually not everything is. you will find the newsagency is the same price or better on almost all our products. Compare thh ink prices at newsxpress mount morgan to Rocky and that BIG place that advertises how they are the cheapest and everyone believes them! Matt Cook you nailed it with your comments. it sucks but the big companies are choking the little guys.
  • Roxie Vaughan -Most companies classed as remote have to out source there own way of collecting there stock.. from buying a vehicle to using freight company's who most charge by space or weight.. all factors have to be considered.
  • Albie Davis - I used to live on Sarina range, which is about a 10- 15 minute drive from Sarina, and a 30 minute drive from Mackay. We could never get stuff delivered as we were classed as ' remote' and one time, classed as 'inaccessable' by Telstra.
  • Tim Croft - Keppel sands pub is the same. I buy Ted's for $40 at yeppoon and pay $52.90 at keppel sands hotel motel.
  • Sandi Worsley - Boycott them. Plenty of other outlets
  • Anita Louise - Remote location from here I'd consider Keppel Island or pumpkin island. Byfield store as well
  • Robyn Marie Knights - I think that everyone should pay the same amount including freight. They want us to live rural and support local bussiness so why should they have to pay more and suffer... flat rates for all.
  • Polly Reed - Remote classification is often a money making con. Companies can easily offset costs by the vast profits they make in the cities.
