IT seems Sunshine Coasters can't wait to board a Qantas flight right from their very own backyard.

The airline announced this week it would introduce direct flights from Sunshine Coast Airport to Sydney, six days a week.

The direct flights will cater for the growing number of interstate commuters in the region.

It's the first time in more than a decade the flying kangaroo will service people of the Coast, with a 110-seat, Boeing 717 to depart for Sydney at 6.40am six days a week from February 8, 2016.

Coast residents gave the news a big thumbs up on our Facebook page. More than 100 readers commented on our post, the majority of which were positive.

While some were looking forward to saving time on their business trip, others questioned when the time would come for north Queensland flights from the Coast.

Good news! Qantas has announced it will provide an early-morning service from the Sunshine Coast to Sydney six times a week: http://ow.ly/PVdoM

Kerry Fealy: Would like to see them or another flight fly to Townsville instead of travelling all the way to Brisbane

Pam Holland: Hopefully followed by Sunshine Coast to Melbourne six mornings a week

Jenny Jaisingh: More flights to North Queensland because it's silly to go via Brisbane

Kirrily Auchter: We just need a 7-7.30pm departure from Sydney back to the Sunny Coast and we will be really really happy!

Gail Nixon: Still waiting for Sunshine Coast to Adelaide to come back.

Liz Leckie: Sensational news! Just hope they have business travellers in mind for flight times heading back from
Sydney - arriving to Sunshine Coast at 6.15 doesn't allow for all day meetings.

Chontel Guest Maxwell: Great! Sick of organising flights out of Brisbane or organising flights for the night before.

Rachael Ross: When will they fly to Mackay as there are so many FIFO workers on the Coast?

Cameron Dunlop: Great news! I just got four hours back in my day
