READER DISCUSS: Rockhampton's traffic lights timings

ANYONE who travels through Rockhampton to get to work knows precious time is wasted while waiting at traffic lights.

As Rockhampton has increased the number of lights in the region, the amount of time getting around the city has also increased, leaving residents with longer travel times to and from work.

Mayor Margaret Strelow said she had been fielding a lot of complaints around the timing of the lights, and wants to do something about it.

Here are what readers have to say about traffic lights:

Yasmine Schultenkamp - Carlton street and Yaamba road (near uni and heights college)

And the traffic lights on McLaughlin street and the corner of glenmore school

Kelly Wilson - Lights at the end of East St mall turning onto the bridge. Sometimes you have to wait for the lights to change 3 or 4 times before you can get out of the mall at knock off time. They take forever to change & don't stay green long enough to get traffic moving

Chay Conaglen - coming over old bridge towards south side as you go to turn right at target intersection it is to short, particularlly early mornings when everyone is trying to get to work. If your at the end of the line you'll have to wait again until it goes green. needs another 5-10 seconds in the mornings.

Toby Eade - bro that's EVERY set of lights in the brisbane/ipswich area ahah

Ian Hermann - Why not have a red light camera on every set of lights and improve the synchronization of lights on the main roads and make the timing of the lights on the feeder streets at least five to 10 seconds longer to clear congestion. Main Roads doesn't always get it right.

Matt Spencer - Why dont they just do something smart like set all the lights up so every intersection moves at the same time ... all lights going north/south at once and then all lights going east/west at the same time ... pretty simple idea but that would be too hard wouldn't it

Shari Edwards - red light camera on yaamba and moores creek road, too many trucks running red lights and all of the lights on musgrave street

Ariel Campbell - Some trucks cant stop in time, so its best they keep going to get through

Josh Hennig - I think all the traffic lights along fitzroy st after you cross denison street heading towards the bridge need to be synchronized, at least a minimum of during peak hours times and im sure its not that complicated to do so and would allow a much smoother traffic flow throughout the CBD. i swear on multiple occasions it took me 15 minutes once just to travel 3 city blocks and was sitting at green lights due to traffic being backed up ahead because of the ridiculous way these traffic lights operate. it might of worked 30 years ago with a small population but i think the saying get with the times is well suited to this rant! also the length of time that turning lights stay green at the intersections of fitzroy and bolsover streets, east st mall and fitzroy street, and farm st and yaamba road are ridiculously too short, and I have had to wait for up to 3 cycles before getting through on some occaisions. especially fitzroy and bolsover streets. others might winge about this and say people have no patience, but the reality of the situation is, things could be dramatically improved in regards to traffic flow that would push this region forward with the times instead of being stuck with systems that are reaching, or should i say have already exceeded their capacity

Jayden Hornung - Lights at High Street/Moores Creek Road are shocking. Plenty of time if you're travelling on Moores Creek Road but barely enough time for 4 or 5 cars to get through High Street/Alexandra Street direction.

Melanie Benesch - How about a red light camera instead? The High/Alexandra/highway intersection always has red light runners that prevent the other drivers making it through on the green
