Mountain Creek student takes out prestigeous dance award

YEAR 12 Mountain Creek State High School student Ellyn Gwillim travelled to Melbourne on July 17 to represent Queensland at the 23rd ATOD (Australian Teachers of Dancing ) Australasian Scholarships.

She won the David Atkins Award along with $2500 prize money to put towards her dance career and dreams of one day being in Musical Theatre.

This prestigous award is only open to students who have completed at least four ATOD Jazz exams attaining a high standard of highly commended or above and who have previously won their state qualifier or who are at a full time dance school.

Ellyn participated in a 1.5 hour unseen class with adjudicators Sean Preston and Trish Squire-Rogers and then went on to perform 2 solos including Song and Dance and Tap. Ellyn studies dance and vocal locally at DanceEdge Studios, Warana participating in all styles under the tuition of Natalie Lightfoot, Jodi Branch, Leigh Kelley and Karyn Clarke.

This is a fantastic achievement for both her and her dance studio.
