PEACH healthy lifestyle program comes to Laidley

YOUR STORY: Enrolments are now open for the final Queensland Government funded PEACH™ healthy lifestyle program to be offered in Laidley.

PEACH™ (Parenting, Eating and Activity for Child Health) is a free, parent-led program open to all families with primary school-aged children and is being delivered by the Queensland University of Technology state-wide.

The program supports parents and carers who are struggling to maintain a healthy balance, offering practical advice and information about healthy eating options and ways to increase levels of physical activity.

It involves 10 group sessions which run for 90 minutes each, with the first nine sessions held weekly within the school term.

The school term 2 Laidley group will start on Wednesday April 20 at the Laidley District State School from 3.30pm to 5pm.

Topics to be covered at the sessions include lunchbox and snack ideas, reading food labels, dealing with fussy eaters, healthy takeaway choices, and changing family lifestyle behaviours, such as reducing screen time.

More than 900 children have taken part in the PEACH™ program since its launch in Queensland in September 2013 in response to high levels of childhood obesity in the state.

Families can register for the Laidley group by phoning PEACH™ on free call 1800 263 519 or online at www.peachqld.com.au.
