READERS DISCUSS: Government's proposed net-fishing ban

ROCKHAMPTON Mayor Margaret Strelow takes a bite at the net-fishing ban debate. Readers discuss:

Tracey Sorensen: If the local fishing industry is restricted by net-fishing ban where am I going to get locally freshly caught fish from? Health professionals say we should limit our red meat intake and have seafood instead but if the commercial fisherman lose their livelihoods and we lose the industry, how are we suppose to do that if we don't have the ability or time to catch our own fish? Do you really kill one industry to make another uncertainty like 'tourism fishing' a possibility?

Kerry Higgins: From reading all of these comments it seems as though the general public is against the proposed net free zones and are in favour of having the ability to purchase local fresh seafood over imported. Keep our jobs local.

Bridie Luva: I want to be able to buy locally caught fish.

Joanne Coulter: Me too... farmed barra which if not sent as fresh to the markets it sent overseas to asia for processing and comes back frozen.
