Meet your candidates running in division six

DAVID DALGLEISH

Candidate for division six David Dalgleish

I AM ONE of five generations of my family in Hervey Bay.

I have been the elected state member for Hervey Bay, elected to the Hervey Bay City Council and then the Fraser Coast Regional Council and deputy mayor.

I bring stability and experience.

My key promise is to work hard, do my best, listen to the constituents and put people before politics.

Overhaul the rating system, lock in rates to real CPI not Local Government CPI. Extend the CPI to increase the pensioner discount.

I am not a supporter of the sports precinct in its proposed location when so many areas are missing out on basic infrastructure.

We need to offer incentives to new industry to set up in our region.

Council should leave the foreshore alone apart from weeding.

I would like to secure a future clean drinking water supply - when Lenthalls dam was raised its projected capacity would only support growth to 2020.

I would like to see over 30 years a new airport with capacity to have international flights and with tilt train access, a motor sport facility and light rail between Hervey Bay and Maryborough.

DAVID LEWIS

Candidate for division six David Lewis.

I AM a lawyer with 40 years' service in Hervey Bay, and extensive community involvement.

I am independent, sensible, and offer a balanced inclusive approach. I have good analytical and negotiation skills.

My key promise is to make our council more consultative, collaborative, inclusive and accountable, and to get the best value.

We can limit rate increases to the CPI if we cut extravagance and waste.

I want a complete review to see if the sport precinct is appropriate, needed and affordable.

We must protect our heritage, for future generations, and for tourism. Save the Pialba Memorial Hall. Council must work with business, leverage off the health industry, value-add to tourism.

We can achieve a balance between parks, views, retention of habitat, and protection of beaches. Avoid rock walls wherever possible. Develop road systems to cope beyond today, augment water and sewerage systems, develop footpaths and bikeways.

We must plan for a future with 100,000 people, but preserve those things that attracted us to live here.

GEOFF REDPATH

Candidate for division six Geoff Redpath

I AM a husband to Kim, Dad to Zachary and Lucas, CPA accountant, 20 years in business advisory, strategic planning, budget, audit, taxation, governance and boardroom experience locally, interstate and overseas. Two years working for myself. Fourth generation Fraser Coast resident. Golf tragic. I am a man of my word who would bring energy and integrity to council. I am proactive, professional, experienced and come ready to make a public contribution to our future.

My key promise is to listen and actively consult with the community to ensure council adopts practical, pragmatic and common sense policies. Cut the waste cut the rates.

No sport precinct until I see an independent business case that stacks up both financially and socially.

Heritage? Preserve, protect and promote.

Business is the heartbeat of our economy.
The foreshore is clean, tidy, natural, native, alive and safe.

Fix Tooth St, build the missing footpath link from Beach Rd, and enhance the Eli Waters lakes and paths. Safety upgrade to the Urraween-Maryborough Hervey Bay Rd intersection. Secure our future water supply.
