Electric car to recharge in Airlie

Marc and Tesla Talloen will stop in at Airlie Beach tomorrow to recharge - literally.

The couple and their Tesla S85 electric car will meet with Whitsunday Regional Councillors as part of their journey to Cape Tribulation.

The car, valued at $135,000, can travel 400km on a full charge but the duo has chosen Airlie as a recharge point, much to the delight of deputy mayor Andrew Wilcox.

"Council commends Marc's mission to promote electric cars as a viable means of environmentally friendly transport and the way of the future," he said.

"A large majority of their journey has also been undertaken on solar energy showing the various ways to charge the vehicle. It is a great example of renewable alternatives available to consumers."

Council was made aware of Marc's trip by RATCH Australia, who is working towards building a $100million solar photovoltaic power station in Collinsville.

The proposed solar power station will supply enough power to meet the annual needs of 15,000 homes, which is equivalent to the number of dwellings in the Whitsunday region.
