Update: 2.40pm: CENTRAL Queensland continues to remain the focus of Federal Election campaigning with Palmer United Party leader Clive Palmer said today that if elected his party would provide about $160 million for a new sports centre and a range of hospitals across regional Queensland.

Mr Palmer's plan to improve health and recreation facilities for regional Queenslanders includes $80 million for a new sports centre at Rockhampton and $20 million each to go to hospitals at Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Mt Isa.

11.30pm: CENTRAL Queensland appears to be a hot spot for Federal politicians at the moment.

It all started with the Community Cabinet bringing a handful of ministers and the Prime Minister to the region, with most hanging around for other matters before and after.

Today, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott is here.

He and Nationals Leader Warren Truss made a joint announcement at the Burnett/Bruce Highway intersection this morning.

Barnaby Joyce, who has resigned as a Queensland Senator and is running for the seat of New England in the upcoming election, is expected in the region next week.

Also, Katter's Australian Party Capricornia candidate Robbie Williams will be hosting the party's Queensland Senate candidate James Blundell at the Great Western on Sunday afternoon.

This all comes only four weeks after the leadership spill which saw Kevin Rudd reinstated as Australia's PM.

Many polls have run around the country following the dethroning of Julia Gillard with many showing 50/50 chance of Rudd retaining power post an election.

Gillard had set down September 14 as the election date, but due to the leadership change, the official date has yet to be set.

There are rumours of an August 24, August 31 or October election day date.

Meanwhile, while more than half of Central Queenslanders said, through a Facebook poll, they preferred Rudd as the PM, before the spill occurred, there has been no more polls done locally to see what Central Queenslanders want.
