THE Maryborough Excelsior City Band delighted 250 brass and pipe band enthusiasts with its Anzac Centenary Concert on Sunday afternoon at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough.

Excelsior band musical director and ex-serviceman Mel Neilson said the 20 band members had been rehearsing since before Christmas and had put a lot of effort into making a fitting Anzac tribute.

"We've really stuck to the theme of an Anzac tribute which is so important especially this year, and some of us band members were servicemen ourselves which makes it extra special," Mr Neilson said.

Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders was in the audience and said concerts paying tribute to the Anzacs were an important way to pay tribute to them.

"My father was a serviceman in the Second World War and I grew up listening to this music, so it's really personal and significant to me."
